Sparky Direct has been involved for many years to help raise funds for SU Australia to put chaplains in schools. Chaplains provide social, emotional, and spiritual support to school communities. They are in the prevention and support business, helping students find a better way to deal with life’s issues. They provide a listening ear and a caring presence in the school, available for all students, staff, and families. SU Australia is a not-for-profit organization for young people who are in need – in need of someone to listen, someone to care for, and someone to speak hope into their life. Sparky Direct is committed to raising funds for SU Australia and Chaplaincy, and the reason for this is simple: the more chaplains that are present in schools, the more they can help children in need.
The journey began when Sparky Direct was invited to attend one of SU Australia's fundraising dinners. After listening to the work that chaplains do and the challenges they face in schools, the team at Sparky Direct knew they had to get involved and support these dedicated individuals.
The chaplains don't just help children, they help the whole family. For example, if a child at school has a parent with cancer, the chaplain will support the entire family, providing them with resources and support, and working as a liaison between the family and the school.
One example of how chaplaincy has made a meaningful difference is a young man who spoke at a recent dinner about the severe bullying he faced in school. He credited his chaplain for getting him through that difficult time and even preventing him from taking his own life. Today, he is a successful member of the community with a wife and children.
Sparky Direct's strong commitment to giving back to the community is driven by a belief that they can make a direct impact. Every member of the team is actively involved in fundraising efforts, whether it be through seeking donations, creating graphics, or other means.
To date, Sparky Direct has helped raise around $700,000 for the chaplaincy, and what they appreciate most is the gratitude they receive. After events, chaplains and children who have been directly affected by the chaplaincy will come up to them to express their appreciation. This is significant to Sparky Direct because they know they are making a real difference in the lives of children and families.
Breaking the cycle of need for just one child can have a ripple effect and change the course of their life. Sparky Direct is proud to support the chaplaincy and the positive impact they have on children and families in the community.
